This site will comprise 2,800 new homes, two new primary schools, a district centre, 63,500m2 of employment floorspace and 9km of cycleways. In Phase 1, Morris and Cala Homes are taking forward the first homes on site with Durkan and two further housebuilders due on site in the next few months and years. The whole development is expected to take 15 years to complete.

The promotion of sustainable transport and active travel is a key priority for Urban&Civic across all of their projects, with the Master Developer role ensuring that Active Design principles and interconnected walk and cycle routes are baked into the new communities they bring forward . Go Travel Solutions are a specialist sustainable transport consultancy, who have been fulfilling the Travel Planning Co-ordinator role for the New Lubbesthorpe Sustainable Urban Extension since 2018 and have recently been appointed by Harworth Group for a similar scheme in North West Leicestershire. They will work in partnership with Urban&Civic to promote sustainable and active travel to residents of the development. As part of their programme, they will introduce their innovative LocalGo scheme to incentivise local sustainable travel options.

Rebecca Britton, Head of Communications, Communities and Partnerships for Urban&Civic Plc said:

The promotion of sustainable transport is a vital part of creating sustainable and healthy places and communities, and Wintringham – with its proximity to St Neots and a mainline station just a short cycle away – provides real opportunities to ensure residents moving in choose cycle, walking or public transport options over their cars. We have and will continue to roll out the key infrastructure to support this from the first tree planted to the last brick laid. The role of activating that, and creating a culture of “car last, not car first” for travel choices requires strong partnership working and we are pleased to be working with Go Travel Solutions to help deliver our sustainable options for this exciting new community.

Robin Pointon, Managing Director for Go Travel Solutions said:

Our focus will be on working to meet both the planning requirements and adding value to the scheme through delivering best practice in sustainable promotion and development. We are excited to be working with Urban&Civic, who as a Master Developer, are one of the leaders in developing new housing schemes with sustainable travel as a cornerstone of their scheme design.
